Barnyard Babble is a flash-card game I designed and printed for a classroom learning activity. Claim Examiners at Great-West Healthcare were required to learn over 100 Medical Acronyms and Claim Service Codes. My creative solution was to use popular childhood memory and matching game approaches using flash-cards to practice and memorize complex terminology together during an instructor led activity.
CONTENTS:
36 picture cards
OBJECTIVE:
► To reinforce Great-West Healthcare acronym familiarity.
► To find the most pairs of matching acronym cards.
GAME SETUP:
► Mix and spread the cards picture-side-down on a flat surface. (I.e. floor, wall, white-board, etc.)
► Form 6 rows of cards across and 6 rows down; using all 36 cards (18 pairs).
GAME PLAY:
Players take turns turning any two cards picture-side-up. The cards must be turned over completely, so that all players can see them.
A MATCH: A player makes a match if two cards turned picture side up are matching acronym cards. When a match is made, the player takes both cards and places them in front of him/her. The player then takes another turn, and continues  taking turns until he/ she misses.
A MISS: A player misses if the two cards turned over are not identical. When a player misses, he/she turns the two cards picture side down again, in the same place. That player's turn ends--and all players try to remember which cards were turned over, for future matches.
WHO WINS:
The player who has the most pairs of matching cards wins.
VARIATIONS:
► Have the players turn over a card and verbally state the "content" and verbalize the appropriate response. For example: Player turns over the AMA card and they state "American Medical Association."
► Player turns over the American Medical Association card and they state "AMA."
